Nominees and Winners of the 2013 Africa Movie Academy Awards
The 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) with the theme "AFRICA ONE" held last Saturday April 20, 2013, at the Gloryland Cultural Center in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa State. The event was co-hosted by Nollywood diva Dakore Egbuson, comedian Ayo Makun, Adjetey Anang and Ama K Abebrese British/Ghanaian television presenter and actress who won AMAA Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2011. The red carpet event included spectacular live performances by famous Nigerian singers P-Square, Banky W, Flavour Nabania, Bayelsa State Cultural Troop, Khlena Demza, Kwelatebza (South Africa), Groove Magic (Malawi), Waje (Nigeria), Timi Dakolo (Nigeria) and comedians included AY Makun, G Bone and Funny Bone. Timi Dakolo's awesome song "Great Nation" got more applause than the national anthem of Nigeria as the audience gave him a well deserved standing ovation.
Ekenyerengozi Michael Chima, aka "Orikinla Osinachi" with Malawian beauties Flora Suya (in Afro), one of the nominees for the Best Actress in a Leading Role for her movie "Last Fishing Boat" which won the AMAA 2013 Prize For Achievement In Soundtrack and Thelma.
Ekenyerengozi Michael Chima with Amaka Anioji at the 2013 AMAA Banquet hosted by Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson in the government house Yenagoa, Saturday night after the star studded event.
The beautiful fast rising Nollywood diva Amaka won the Most Outstanding Actress award at the 9th edition of the Abuja International Film Festival, beating established actresses like Ini Edo, Funke Akindele, Nse Etim-Ikpe, Uche Jombo among others for her leading role in Tope Oshin-Ogun's “Till Death Do Us Part” which shot her into the limelight.
The awards were presented by popular Nollywood stars and other celebrities; Doris Simeon, Brian Okwara, Beverly Naya, Ivie Okujaiye, Alex Ekubo, Lydia Forson, Femi Brainard, Jude Orhorha, Fathia Balogun, Uti Nwachukwu, Chioma Chukwuka-Akpota and President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Ibinabo Fiberesima.
The famous Mexican born American actor and director Mario Cain Van Peebles, son of film-maker Melvin Van Peebles known for his 1991 hit movie New Jack City was one of the invited special guests from Hollywood.
