From Hillary Clinton For President on the Decision on Florida and Michigan

Dear Orikinla, Hillary has consistently stood up for the voters of Michigan and Florida. She, like you, has insisted that the voice of all Americans be heard. Today, the DNC's Rules and Bylaws Committee announced their decision on seating Florida and Michigan's delegations. In recent days, almost 350,000 of Hillary's supporters wrote in to the committee to make clear what an important principle it is for our party to count every vote. Our campaign has released an official statement about the results of the Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting and I'd like to share it with you, our most dedicated supporters. I know how passionate you are about the importance of counting every vote cast in Florida and Michigan and I appreciate everything you are doing. Sincerely, Maggie Williams Campaign Manager Hillary Clinton for President

My Vote's for Obama (if I could vote) ...by Michael Moore

My Vote's for Obama (if I could vote) ...by Michael Moore April 21st, 2008 Friends, I don't get to vote for President this primary season. I live in Michigan. The party leaders (both here and in D.C.) couldn't get their act together, and thus our votes will not be counted. So, if you live in Pennsylvania, can you do me a favor? Will you please cast my vote -- and yours -- on Tuesday for Senator Barack Obama? I haven't spoken publicly 'til now as to who I would vote for, primarily for two reasons: 1) Who cares?; and 2) I (and most people I know) don't give a rat's ass whose name is on the ballot in November, as long as there's a picture of JFK and FDR riding a donkey at the top of the ballot, and the word "Democratic" next to the candidate's name. Seriously, I know so many people who don't care if the name under the Big "D" is Dancer, Prancer, Clinton or Blitzen. It can be Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Barry Obama or the Dalai Lam...

Obama’s Pastor and Clintons’ Tactics Make Race a Central Issue

Obama’s Pastor and Clintons’ Tactics Make Race a Central Issue ~ by Robert Novak and Timothy P. Carney (more by this author) Posted 03/19/2008 ETUpdated 03/20/2008 ET Outlook Race, studiously avoided by the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and subtly peddled by the campaign of Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), has bloomed into a central issue in this presidential campaign thanks to the now-ubiquitous words of his mentor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. This is bad news for Obama, but he is managing the development nearly as well as he can. National polls show a dead heat in the presidential election -- for both Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) v. Clinton and McCain v. Obama. But the cloud looming over the horizon is a financial crisis. The Federal Reserve's unprecedented intervention in financial markets to bail out Bear Stearns is intended to prevent the incipient panic on Wall Street from expanding into a depression. (See below). Amid the financial crisis with vast political implications,...

Howard Dean Discusses Democratic Race, Primaries and John McCain on Sunday Shows

9 Mar 2008 17:41 Africa/Lagos Howard Dean Discusses Democratic Race, Primaries and John McCain on Sunday Shows WASHINGTON, March 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean this morning discussed the Democratic race, his hope that Florida and Michigan delegates will be seated at the convention according to party rules, the Democratic win in this weekend's special election in Illinois, and the third Bush term promised by Senator John McCain. The following are excerpts from Dean's appearances on CBS's Face the Nation with Bob Schieffer and ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos: ON SENATOR MCCAIN: "We're going to beat John McCain. He's totally unsuited at this particular time to be president. He's wrong on the war in Iraq, wrong on the economy, wrong on health care." [ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos, 3/9/08] ON KEEPING THE PARTY UNITED: "We will beat John McCain if we're united a...

Howard Dean's Statement on Florida and Michigan

Howard Dean 6 Mar 2008 00:37 Africa/Lagos Dean's Statement on Florida and Michigan WASHINGTON, March 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement on Florida and Michigan : "We're glad to hear that the Governors of Michigan and Florida are willing to lend their weight to help resolve this issue. As we've said all along, we strongly encourage the Michigan and Florida state parties to follow the rules, so today's public overtures are good news. The rules, which were agreed to by the full DNC including representatives from Florida and Michigan over 18 months ago, allow for two options. First, either state can choose to resubmit a plan and run a party process to select delegates to the convention; second, they can wait until this summer and appeal to the Convention Credentials Committee, which determines and resolves any outstanding questions about the seating of delegates. We look forward to r...

The Truth About Super Delegates and the Barack Obama Spin

Dear Orikinla, You've probably seen some of the news about the delegates it will take to win the Democratic nomination, including discussions about pledged delegates and automatic delegates, or so-called "super delegates." There are a number of misconceptions about the role that delegates will play in this election, so we've launched a new website, the Delegate Hub , to help you cut through all the myths about the race for delegates. The three most important things to remember are: 1) A candidate needs 2208 delegate votes to secure the nomination with Florida and Michigan included. 2) After weeks of voting, the race is a virtual tie, with Hillary and Senator Obama now separated by little over 2% of all the delegates to the Democratic Convention. 3) Both Hillary and Senator Obama will need automatic (super) delegates to win the nomination. Senator Obama has aggressively courted automatic delegates, while his campaign has simultaneously tried to discount their role in t...

Hillary Clinton Raises $6 Million in 72 Hours

The Hillary Clinton Camp has raised $6 million in 72 hours for her presidential campaign to exceed the target of $3 million set after her superlative Super Tuesday victories in New York, New Jersey, California, Massachusetts and other states. She beat Barack Obama to the biggest prize of California and that provoked him to raise over $7 million to boost his presidential campaign in the quest for the presidential nomination of the Democratic Party. Barack Obama won more states, but Hillary Clinton won more votes and more delegates. She has won more votes than Barack Obama since she bounced back after losing the Iowa Caucuses to him by 8%. She defeated him in the New Hampshire Primary and Nevada Caucuses and she was the first choice of most voters in the No-Contest Democratic Primaries in Michigan and Florida. Barack Obama defeated her in the South Carolina Primary before the Super Tuesday Primaries and Caucuses in 22 states. The contest for the Democratic presidential nomination continu...

Michigan Men Sue American Airlines

Michigan Men Sue American Airlines Group detained in August says they were racially profiled DETROIT, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Six Michigan men who in August were escorted off an American Airlines flight and then detained filed a race discrimination lawsuit Wednesday against the airline, saying the incident was a clear case of racial profiling, false imprisonment and a violation of civil rights. Filed in U.S. District Court by Allen Brothers PLLC of Detroit, the lawsuit seeks hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensatory damages for hours of detainment, interrogation, public humiliation and embarrassment. The incident occurred when the group was returning home from providing consulting work for U.S. troops. "The airline treated these individuals like criminals, simply because of stereotyping and ignorance. The irony is, these men were returning home from training our troops before deployment to Iraq," said Lawrence Garcia, the attorney representing the men. "This kind o...
