Murrow, Walter Cronkite, and David Brinkley. The City of Buffalo has also lost its favorite son, who loved his city and its hometown team, the Bills. The smile that came across Tim's face whenever he spoke of the place of his birth and his favorite football team was one of true joy and I will never forget it. Pelosi: President Should Push OPEC for Increased Production, Abandon His 'Drill and Veto' Policies

13 May 2008 17:45 Africa/Lagos Pelosi: President Should Push OPEC for Increased Production, Abandon His 'Drill and Veto' Policies WASHINGTON, May 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement prior to President Bush departing today on a five-day trip to the Middle East, including a stop in Saudi Arabia on Friday: "The White House has indicated that President Bush will push Saudi officials for OPEC to increase production in an effort to bring down prices for American consumers. As the largest oil producer and exporter, Saudi Arabia is uniquely positioned to influence the price at the pump and the President must use his close ties to help consumers who are in desperate need of relief. "While I hope the President will return with concrete assurances that OPEC will take swift action to bring down prices, in the past the Administration's calls have been ineffective, making it all the more necessary for Congress to step in to...

One Man Can Change History

One Man Can Change History by Newt Gingrich (more by this author) Posted 03/11/2008 ETUpdated 03/11/2008 ET On Wednesday, March 12, I am delivering a lecture at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington based on a simple proposition: "What if Reagan had not run for President and the Soviet Union still existed?" As you know, I write active history in which we change key decisions to see how they would have affected actual history. ( Pearl Harbor and the soon-to-be-released Days of Infamy are novels I coauthored with William Forstchen about the Second World War that use this approach.) And because this month marks the 25th anniversary of some of the most consequential speeches that led to the end of the former Soviet Union, I thought it would be interesting to apply this technique to the Cold War. The Only Leader Who Understood the Change Needed Was Ronald Reagan In 1980, the United States was losing the Cold War. Under President Jimmy Carter, the American economy had ...

What is Wrong With Chris Matthews?

Dear Friend, By now, you may be familiar with this recent exchange between Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and MSNBC Hardball host Chris Matthews: Sen. Clinton: "I don't know what to do with men who are obsessed with me. I honestly have never understood it." [...] Matthews: "It's not obsession." If you have ever watched an episode of Hardball, you may find Matthews' above statement a bit suspect. After all, as Media Matters for America has previously documented, after The New York Times published an article on Hillary and Bill Clinton's marriage in May of 2006, Matthews asked at least 90 questions on the subject over the course of seven broadcasts on his two programs (Hardball and The Chris Matthews Show). One of his guests during these broadcasts, Washington Post reporter Lois Romano, called Matthews out after he repeatedly inquired about how many days the Clintons slept under the same roof. "[W]hat is your obsession with logistics here?" s...

Nigerian Politics is Boring

Nigerian politics is boring. The posts on this board are enough to support my conclusion, because most of the topics are duplications of other topics and having challenging discussions is like wasting your time. There are only very few informed commentators on the Politics discussion board of Nairaland and the rest are not different from the crowd at Oshodi market in Lagos, Nigeria. The majority of the Nigerian electorate are non-literates and semi literates who are always intimidated by the criminal politicians and that is why local thugs like chief Lamidi Adedibu can be accepted by his people and the likes of the ex-president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. The return of the primitive native. Dr. Pat Utomi and others of the Nigerian intelligentsia should not have joined the Nigerian politicians, because it is a waste of quality time to engage them in issues of the state when most of them are not political leaders or women, but opportunists. I hardly blog on Nigerian politics, because the...

Freedom of the press, protected by the First Amendment has been a cornerstone of our democracy-one that we cherish and promote around the world. "A free press keeps our nation informed and holds those of us in government accountable. It is critical to freedom of speech and expression in our country.
