Approach Boko Haram As A Crisis of Compromise Using the Power of Culture

Image
President Goodluck Jonathan looks bored and tired of the perpetual problems of Nigeria. Approach Boko Haram as a Crisis of Compromise using the Power of Culture ~ John Egbeazien Oshodi,Ph.D Don’t negotiate, negotiate which way to go —Mr. President? With one side of the mouth of the Presidency we hear from the President’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika that the Federal Government must not engage in negotiation with the Boko Haram sect and that the use of pure militaristic approach is the ultimate way out. On the other side of the presidential cavity is President Goodluck Jonathan telling the world that the Nigerian government would dialogue with the unyielding Islamist organization, Boko Haram, if they are open with their demands and their identifications. With this clear lines of governmental mix-up, hundreds of lives are being lost constantly, continuously and painfully. The current intelligence operations and noise making from some in authority, and the mostly reac...

Nigerian Prisons, the Courts and Imprisoned Terrorists

Image
Inside a typical prison in Nigeria. Nigerian Prisons, the Courts and Imprisoned Terrorists ~ By John Egbeazien Oshodi The Nigerian courts and the prisons have in the last few months become intensively involved in terrorists being imported from our streets into the penal system. Nigeria, unlike the Euro-American or Western world does not have the enormous technological, security and psychological experience to put a full handle on the ‘war of terror’. Yet, hundreds of reported arrested members of Boko Haram sect are continuously being tossed into our already overcrowded prisons. Certainly, everyone including the prison personnel, convicts and the persons awaiting trial as well as their respective families are likely to be increasingly preoccupied with safety concerns Considering that both the domestic and foreign terrorists come into the prisons with endured religious, political and social influences, these detained and convicted terrorists currently under lock up, could make our pris...

Nigerian Legislators Are Behaving Like Unruly Pupils In A Classroom

Image
Nigerian legislators often forget that they are no longer school pupils in a secondary school . I have just been following the so called emergency session of the House of Representatives on Sunday January 8, 2012, to address the unpopular removal of the fuel subsidy on petrol and the state of emergency over terrorist attacks in the middle belt and northern states. But I see that majority of them are not really bothered as they are busy antagonizing themselves without any definite resolution. Many of them are misbehaving like pupils in a classroom and laughing when the country is threatening to implode? They said Nigeria is broke, but they are not even bothered about reviewing their own salaries and allowances and the lopsided revenue allocation formula. Since Nigeria is broke, the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) should fix the total monthly salary of a senator at N1.06m and that of a House of Representatives member at N794, 000. And anyone who is not ready...

25 Jul 2011 16:18 Africa/Lagos Nigeria security forces in random killing following bomb blast LONDON, July 25, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The Nigerian authorities must immediately put a stop to unlawful killings by security forces, Amnesty International said today after at least 23 people were killed by police following a bomb blast on Saturday in the north-eastern city of Maiduguri. The bomb, allegedly set off by the Islamist group Boko Haram, went off in the Budum market in central Maiduguri and injured three soldiers. According to reports received by Amnesty International, the Nigerian Joint Military Task Force (JTF) responded by shooting and killing a number of people, apparently at random, before burning down the market. “President Goodluck Jonathan must get a grip on the Nigerian armed forces and immediately prevent them from carrying out further human rights violations and unlawful killings,” said Tawanda Hondora, Amnesty International's Deputy Director for Af...

Osama is dead, but the Al Qaeda is Not

Image
Nobody expected the breaking news of the death of the most dreaded Islamic terrorist Osama bin Laden announced by U.S. President Barack Obama after American Navy Seals shot and killed him in a compound in Abbotabad, a town of about 60 miles from the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Sunday. Osama bin Laden But the end of Osama bin Laden does not mean the end of the Al Qaeda or the end of Islamic terrorism. Therefore, we must not think the worst is over. The Al Qaeda is a monster with many heads and another head soon grows to replace the one that has been cut off.

The World's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and YouTube - CIA Leak Case of the FBI Most Wanted Terrorists Bank.

I wanted to post the list of The World's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives , but I changed my mind, because it is not news. The information on the most wanted fugitives in the world is all over the Internet. Osama bin Laden is top on the list and on the most wanted list of the FBI and CIA. But it is a list made up by America and I wonder if President Geroge W. Bush is better than these fugiitives, because I am sure that he is also on the most wanted list of Islamic fundamentalists for the American catastrophe in Iraq. Here is how I am going to wrap up my own point of view with this YouTube - CIA Leak Case of the FBI Most Wanted Terrorists Bank.

Court Awards US Victims More Than $6 Billion for 1989 Libyan Terrorist Bombing of French Airliner That Killed 170 People Over African Desert

16 Jan 2008 05:16 Africa/Lagos Court Awards US Victims More Than $6 Billion for 1989 Libyan Terrorist Bombing of French Airliner That Killed 170 People Over African Desert WASHINGTON, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A federal judge has ordered the Government of Libya and six of its officials to pay a total of approximately $6 billion in damages arising from the mid-air suitcase bombing of a French-operated UTA Flight 772, DC-10 wide-body jet. The 1989 attack killed 170 people from Europe, Africa and the United States and was one of the deadliest terrorist events in commercial aviation history before September 11, 2001. It came only nine months after a similar suitcase bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, which killed 270 people. The case stems from the September 19, 1989 bombing of UTA Flight 772, which was flying from N'djamena, Chad to Paris, France when a suitcase bomb exploded in the cargo hold at an altitude of 35,000 feet. The aircraft crashed into...

RIP Benazir Bhutto

Image
It's a very sad day. I was deeply shocked and saddened by the beautiful and fearless Ms.Bhutto's death. She was the only hope for a truly democratic Pakistan and for Muslim women. This is yet another cowardly act by terrorists. However, when she returned to Pakistan in Oct, I sort of guessed she was going to be killed. It was a very dangerous step. She somehow took that risk. She's a VERY brave woman. RIP Benazir! Keshi, Viva Forever .

Michigan Men Sue American Airlines

Michigan Men Sue American Airlines Group detained in August says they were racially profiled DETROIT, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Six Michigan men who in August were escorted off an American Airlines flight and then detained filed a race discrimination lawsuit Wednesday against the airline, saying the incident was a clear case of racial profiling, false imprisonment and a violation of civil rights. Filed in U.S. District Court by Allen Brothers PLLC of Detroit, the lawsuit seeks hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensatory damages for hours of detainment, interrogation, public humiliation and embarrassment. The incident occurred when the group was returning home from providing consulting work for U.S. troops. "The airline treated these individuals like criminals, simply because of stereotyping and ignorance. The irony is, these men were returning home from training our troops before deployment to Iraq," said Lawrence Garcia, the attorney representing the men. "This kind o...
