Faruk Lasaki's "Changing Faces" Versus Chineze Anyaene's "IJÉ The Journey"

Image
Without doubt or dispute Chineze Anyaene's IJÉ the Journey is the most financially successful Nigerian movie at the local box office and won an award for setting a box office record in Nigeria. The second is Kunle Afolayan's Figurine . But in terms of screenplay and cinematography I rank Faruk Lasaki's Changing Faces above IJÉ . Would IJÉ have been so popular without Genevieve Nnaji and Omotola Jalade-Ekeninde? Of course Chineze did the right thing that any smart filmmaker would have done in Hollywood or Bollywood by using the most popular actors and actresses to attract their teeming fans to the cinemas. In fact IJÉ should have made more than $1 million in Nigeria alone if Chineze explored all the opportunities and possibilities by also showing the film in as many halls as possible and charging less than the tickets sold at the Silverbird Cinemas and Genesis Deluxe Cinemas. But she seemed to be satisfied with the amount she made in West Africa and is moving on to the n...

Pina is An Awesome Journey of Life in Poetic Dance

Image
PINA - Dance, dance, otherwise we are lost - International Trailer from neueroadmovies on Vimeo . A sizeable crowd watched the African premiere of the awesome German documentary film Pina Saturday afternoon at the Silverbird Cinemas in the Silverbird Galleria on Victoria Island in Lagos. It was the special feature of the monthly documentary film screening series of iRep International Documentary Film Festival and the Goethe Institut in Nigeria. The audience of both Nigerians and the international community of mainly Germans and other Europeans was captivated by the hyperbolic renditions and illustrations of the life work of Philippina "Pina" Bausch (27 July 1940 – 30 June 2009), whose untimely death whilst Wim Wenders was still planning the experimental documentary in 3D compelled him to cancel the film production until the other dancers of the famous Tanztheater Wuppertal prevailed on him to complete the film as a memorial tribute to Pina and what a great tribute it has...

Nollywood Diva Alex Lopez And Marc Baylis In Bed

Image
One of the best actresses in Nigeria's Nollywood is the pretty and sexy Brazilian-Nigerian Alex Lopez, but she does not patronize the local paparazzi, because she is more of a private person than those who play to the gallery of the local tabloids. She was the wife of hot British actor Marc Baylis in Faruk Lasaki's romantic thriller Changing Faces opening at the Silverbird Cinemas, Genesis Deluxe Cinemas and other cinemas on December 16, 201. One Village, One Cinema. Why Not?"

Image
"Most of the world is without a cinema hall. That will all change! One village, one cinema. Why not?" ~Anthony Tate, Virgina, U.S.A. As much as we appreciate the revival of the movie theatre culture in Nigeria with thanks to the Silverbird Cinemas and Genesis Deluxe Cinemas, we would be happier to use cinemas to break social class barriers and build bridges of unity among communities for the common benefit of the society and not to pander to the aristocratic tastes of the rich minority in Nigeria to the detriment of the poor majority. Cinema has never been an elitist medium of communication. Cinema is a tool for public entertainment and enlightenment and has been very effective and imperative in mass literacy campaigns in developed and developing countries for decades. Cinemas made Hollywood the film capital of the world buoyed by over 38,605 indoor screens in 5,561 sites and 628 Drive-In screens in 381 sites in the US, the largest in the world. Presently in Nigeria movie the...
