Nigerian Army Takes Over Bonny Island

The sight of about a battalion of Nigerian soldiers in jeeps, armoured tanks and on foot is making the people of Bonny Island jittery. The deployment of the troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces to the Bonny Kingdom began a week ago after the brutal murder of some military officers by an unidentified group of the dreaded Niger Delta militants. The security of lives and properties is the top priority of the Nigerian government and in particular the security of the Nigeria LNG Bonny Plant Complex. The militants and allied gunmen have given an ultimatum to all foreigners and and non-indigènes to leave Bonny Island before July 16, 2008 , for their own good. They have threatened to besiege the kingdom and sack the multinational oil companies, banks and "saboteurs" they have accused of plundering the Niger Delta region for decades. After the daring attack on the Bonga field , the Nigerian government ordered the Nigerian Armed Forces to hunt and capture the Niger Delta militants respo...

Re: This Ribadu Again!

Ribadu Again! By Ngozi Saromi, culled from This Day Newspaper of October 08, 2007. Tuesday, 09 October 2007 Dele Momodu, publisher of the Ovation magazine and most lately a columnist of THISDAY newspaper, attempts, through his piece of last Saturday [Anti-Corruption War as a Cliché], to heighten the frantic, well-organised and ongoing smear tactics against the EFCC and the person of its Chief Executive, Nuhu Ribadu. Incontrovertibly, Momodu's opening claim, unsupported by any shred of argument or justification, that "the anti-corruption war has come to a dead-end" is at best a wish rather than a fact that serves the delusion of bringing cold comfort to the dirtiest section of the Nigerian thieving class whose image this article ultimately hopes to burnish. As a word of caution however, the beneficiaries of this image management enterprise will be well served to stick to reality and continue their desperate shopping run for a better apologist because this is indeed a poor...

President Umaru Yar Adua is Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves

Image
The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) popularly called by the derogatory name of Papa Deceive Pikin , in Nigerian pidgin English, is a notorious and monstrous plutocracy of kleptomaniacs, from their local wards to the corridors of Aso Villa, the State House in Abuja. The President, Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua is exactly what I call him, Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves . As long as the notoriously corrupt ex-governors, Dr. Peter Odili and Chief “the thief’ James Ibori are still enjoying the protective custody and patronage of the PDP led government, I will never support President Umaru Yar’Adua, because anyone protecting criminals is equally a criminal. Therefore, Alhaji Umaru Yar’ Adua is as guilty as the criminal stalwarts of the PDP, because birds of the same feather flock together. And show me your friends and I will tell you who you are. As Jesus Christ said: By their fruits, you shall know them . If you are the chairperson at a conference of thieves, then you are the chairperson of the...
