29 Apr 2011 16:34 Africa/Lagos Most Americans Not Willing to Pay to Read News Content Online Even fewer than said they would pay 15 months ago PR Newswire NEW YORK, April 29, 2011 NEW YORK, April 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- As businesses explore best practices for success in the changing landscape created by the Internet, some companies have discussed charging for access to online content that was previously free. Some media outlets have discussed doing this, and The New York Times recently began charging online readers who view over 20 articles per month. But there may be trouble ahead as a recent Adweek/Harris Poll found that a large majority said they would be willing to pay "nothing" per month to read a daily newspaper's content online (80%). Of the one in five who would pay, 14% said they would pay between $1 and $10 per month while very few said that they would be willing to pay between $11 and $20 (4%) or more than $20 per month (2%). Will You Tell CNN That You Expect An Apology From Alex Castellanos?

Image
>> Will you tell CNN to take responsibility for their on-air talent? Dear Friend, Is it ever acceptable to use the term "bitch" to describe a woman? CNN political contributor Alex Castellanos seems to think it is. On Wednesday's edition of The Situation Room , moments after CNN senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin referred to a column in The New York Times that "talked about some of the humor in the campaign, and the punch line was a line that was -- that Hillary Clinton was a 'white bitch,'" Castellanos asserted, "And some women, by the way, are named that and it's accurate." Hard to believe? You can check out the Media Matters for America item below or watch the video for yourself here. It's time to hold CNN and Castellanos accountable for his horribly sexist remarks. I hope you'll take a moment to contact CNN today and demand an on-air apology from Castellanos. >> Make your voice heard -- Contact CNN today and demand...

The New York Times: What Has Barack Obama Accomplished That Entitles Him To Look Down On His Fellow Americans?

14 Apr 2008 13:36 Africa/Lagos RNC: The Mask Slips, From The New York Times WASHINGTON, April 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is an op-ed by William Kristol and is being issued by the Republican National Committee: I haven't read much Karl Marx since the early 1980s... My occasion for spending a little time once again with the old Communist was Barack Obama's now-famous comment at an April 6 San Francisco fund-raiser. ... This sent me to Marx's famous statement about religion in the introduction to his "Contribution to the Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right": "Religious suffering is at the same time an expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the sentiment of a heartless world, and the soul of a soulless condition. It is the opium of the people." ... [I]t's one thing for a German thinker to assert that "religion is the sigh of the oppressed crea...

The American Newspaper Can Conquer the Internet

Image
Arthur Miller once described a good newspaper as “a nation talking to itself.” If only in this respect, the Huffington Post is a great newspaper. It is not unusual for a short blog post to inspire a thousand posts from readers—posts that go off in their own directions and lead to arguments and conversations unrelated to the topic that inspired them. Occasionally, these comments present original perspectives and arguments, but many resemble the graffiti on a bathroom wall. The notion that the Huffington Post is somehow going to compete with, much less displace, the best traditional newspapers is arguable on other grounds as well. The site’s original-reporting resources are minuscule. The site has no regular sports or book coverage, and its entertainment section is a trashy grab bag of unverified Internet gossip. And, while the Huffington Post has successfully positioned itself as the place where progressive politicians and Hollywood liberal luminaries post their anti-Bush Administration...

Let The American Man Who Has Never Paid for Sex In Cash or in Kind, Let Him First Cast A Stone At Eliot Spitzer

Image
Gov. Eliot Spitzer of New York "In the meantime, everyone who makes a comment about this should be asked to sign a sworn deposition saying that they have never paid for sex ..." ~ Eric Alterman on Media Matters The New York Times and the Amerikans brought unto me Gov. Eliot Spitzer who has been caught on a federal wiretap ; in adultery with "Kristen" a young woman of easy virtue from the Emperor's Club VIP . I referred them to how Jesus Christ my Lord and Master, the Perfect Teacher judged a similar case about 2, 000 years ago. 1. Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. 2. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. 3. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4. They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5. Now Moses in...

Governor, Eliot Spitzer: Liberal Hypocrisy Exposed... Again

Image
" This was a sophisticated and lucrative operation with a multi-tiered management structure... It was, however, nothing more than a prostitution ring ." -- Governor, Eliot Spitzer (D-NY), on the 2004 break-up of a Staten Island prostitution ring Dear Fellow Conservative, Just when you think it couldn't get any better, that bastion of liberal finger-pointing, the New York Times , has turned on one of its own to report that Democrat Eliot Spitzer -- the squeaky-clean poster boy for ethics reform -- is himself in the crosshairs of a federal interstate prostitution sting. As if watching Obama and Hillary eat each other alive through primary season wasn't enough fun, prepare yourself for 24x7 Spitzer-gate coverage. To be fair, though, our liberal adversaries don't always make exposing their hypocrisy so easy. It has happened to all of us: we're debating some liberal friend or colleague when s/he makes an unsupported claim we're just positive is false -- but we...

Hillary Clinton and John McCain Win The New York Times Endorsements

Image
Senator Hillary Clinton of the Democratic Party and Senator John McCain of the Republican Party have won the national endorsements of The New York Times for the 2008 US presidential election. Senator Hillary Clinton Mrs. Clinton sometimes overstates the importance of résumé. Hearing her talk about the presidency, her policies and answers for America’s big problems, we are hugely impressed by the depth of her knowledge, by the force of her intellect and by the breadth of, yes, her experience. It is unfair, especially after seven years of Mr. Bush’s inept leadership, but any Democrat will face tougher questioning about his or her fitness to be commander in chief. Mrs. Clinton has more than cleared that bar, using her years in the Senate well to immerse herself in national security issues, and has won the respect of world leaders and many in the American military. She would be a strong commander in chief. ~ The New York Times Senator John McCain Senator John McCain of Arizona is the on...
