Nigerian 419 Internet Scammers dupe Victorians

Image
New research shows bogus promises of fabulous wealth, courtesy of unsolicited emails, continue to trick unsuspecting consumers to part with up to $120,000, despite repeated warnings by authorities. Older Australians, in particular, are more likely to be vulnerable to the online scammers. The Australian Institute of Criminology released the results yesterday of a survey of 202 Victorians who sent cash to Nigeria. Some were victims of online dating scams and fraudulent job offers but most fell prey to "advance fee scams" -- promises of huge cash rewards from Nigerian princes and other fake identities if they transferred money upfront. Nigerian Internet Scammers Now Operate From Homes

Nigerian Internet Scammers Now Operate From Homes To escape from the long arms of the law, the notorious Nigerian Internet scammers, popularly known as ‘Yahoo -Yahoo!’ have moved from cyber cafes to the privacy of their homes. After an investigation by a reliable news reporter who visited Lagos in the last week of June, he found out that the “Yahoo -Yahoo!” boys have gone underground since the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) swooped on the cyber cafes frequented by the Internet scammers. They now use laptops to contact their ignorant targets in the United States and other developed countries. The successful “Yahoo -Yahoo!” guys are well known on the campus of the University of Lagos in South western Nigeria, where they cruise about with their fair-weather girlfriends in their flashy cars and bling bling fashion, while their admirers and hangers-on cheer them on. “There is always a greedy Maga online who will fall for any of their various methods of Internet s...

Ann Coulter with admirers. Photo Credit: Free Republic.Com There's a Democrat Behind Door No. 1, 2 and 3 By Ann Coulter Legal Affairs Correspondent, Human Events A few more primary wins and B. Hussein Obama will be able to light up a cigarette during a televised speech and still get the nomination. It looks like the only thing that can stop him now is an endorsement from Al Gore. Gore is always lunging into a movement just as it has passed its prime -- the Internet, Howard Dean, global warming, trying to talk black when he campaigns at a black church. He probably bought a big house a few months ago. Gore is such a supremely unlikable human being, he even subverted the mainstream media's affection for liberalism during the 2000 election. And my brave little Hillary needs a bold move after the Potomac primaries this week. If she can't trick Gore into endorsing Obama, she may have to divorce Bill. Promoting Internet Fraud through Music!

Promoting Internet Fraud through Music! By Bayo Olupohunda I write to express my dismay at the growing damage some Nigerian music, their promoters and recording labels are doing to the current fight against corrupt tendencies and internet scam among the youths in our country. The lyrics and message of most of the songs that are aired on our radio and television stations across Nigeria will further worsen the current campaign against internet scam by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-corruption agencies. This is even more hurting taking into consideration that internet scam and their perpetrators known as Yahoo boys are mostly youths. Pop culture has become a fad among youths so it is expected that the message churned out in the lyrics of hip hop songs will affect their behaviour and belief system either negatively or positively. I have listened with concern the lyrics of a certain hip hop song currently enjoying massive air play on our radio stations. ...
