Surge, Hailed by Cheney Today in Texas, is Not a 'Change In Direction' But Justification of Failed Occupation Policy

27 Feb 2008 09:00 Africa/Lagos Surge, Hailed by Cheney Today in Texas, is Not a 'Change In Direction' But Justification of Failed Occupation Policy NEW YORK, Feb. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As the five-year anniversary of the Iraq invasion draws near, a new PR offensive by the White House is attempting to frame the recent troop "surge" as a strategic and military turnaround. But a growing chorus of experts warn that such claims merely mask the Administration's long-standing policy to ensure a protracted American occupation of the oil-rich nation. They warn that the occupation will not result in an end to the violence that has enveloped Iraq and so far claimed nearly 4,000 American lives. Speaking at Ft. Hood on Tuesday, Vice President Dick Cheney told Texas troops, "It was time for a new strategy, backed up by a surge of forces... and you did in fact turn things around." And at a town hall meeting in Ohio on Monday, Senator John McCain, the lik...

What You May Not Know About Hillary Clinton

Image
Sunday, December 9, 2007; Page A23 SURE, HILLARY CLINTON HAS BEEN IN THE PUBLIC EYE FOR MORE THAN 15 YEARS, BUT YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW . . . 1.It's a story she seldom tells, not even in her autobiography. But Clinton, who opposed the Vietnam War, says she once tried to join the Marines shortly after the conflict ended. She recounted the failed enlistment one time when she was first lady, in a speech to female veterans in June 1994. She said she went to an Arkansas military recruitment office shortly before she married Bill Clinton in fall 1975. Once the Marine recruiter saw the bespectacled law professor, she told the group, he rejected her by saying, "You're too old, you can't see and you're a woman." Time for a Kitchen Table Conversation: Iraq War Funding Bill Costs $500 per U.S. Family

Time for a Kitchen Table Conversation: Iraq War Funding Bill Costs $500 per U.S. Family WASHINGTON, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congress returns to work this week under pressure from the Administration and congressional Republicans to provide more funding for the Iraq war. One of the things Americans should consider: The bill to fund further operations in Iraq would cost a little over $500 per U.S. family, according to WashingtonWatch.com. "American families should have a kitchen table conversation about the Iraq war," said WashingtonWatch.com webmaster Jim Harper. "It may be hard for families to assess our strategy in Iraq, but it's easy to grasp what it means for the government to spend $500 of their money. This is one of the things Americans should weigh on the Iraq issue." WashingtonWatch.com uses government predictions about the costs or savings from proposed laws to calculate the significance to average Americans - in dollars and cents - of proposed ...

Blackwater Stinks From America To Iraq

Image
Let us call a spade a spade, Blackwater is blackwater indeed as defined by Wikipedia : Blackwater (waste) is a relatively recent term used to describe water containing fecal matter and urine. It is also known as brown water, foul water, or sewage. It is distinct from greywater or sullage, the residues of washing processes. Blackwater is heavily polluted and difficult to treat because of the high concentrations of mostly organic pollution. The term is commonly used on recreational vehicles where separate tanks collect blackwater and greywater wastes. American taxpayers are paying $445,000 per year for each Blackwater guard in Iraq. A total waste of public fund in a lost cause. The fact is, Blackwater is guilty of the violations of the Rule of Engagement in the war in Iraq. This is another glaring evidence that President George Walker Bush has bungled the mission in Iraq. Blackwater is a failure of military strategy by the US Armed Forces in Iraq. When Bush knew that he would fail woe...
