Sandra Appiah: The Youngest Black Editor and COO of an International Magazine

Sandra Appiah is the youngest black Editor and COO of an international magazine in the world, the Face2Face AFRICA magazine in New York, U.S.A. At 23, millions of her fellow young African women are either hawking goods on the streets of Accra and Lagos, already having unwanted pregnancies and unwanted babies in dysfunctional marriages or still in colleges, polytechnics and universities in Africa, the most undeveloped continent on earth. And according to the African Economic Outlook, with almost 200 million people aged between 15 and 24, Africa has the youngest population in the world and that number will double by 2045.

Between 2000 and 2008, Africa’s working age population (15-64 years) grew from 443 million to 550 million; an increase of 25%. In annual terms this is a growth of 13 million, or 2.7% per year (World Bank 2011a). If this trend continues, the continent’s labour force will be 1 billion strong by 2040, making it the largest in the world, surpassing both China and India (McKinsey Global Institute, 2010).

~ African Economic Outlook,

Youth unemployment is higher in Africa than in other continents and the grave consequences have been seen in the widespread conflicts caused by economic and sociopolitical crimes in many African countries with increase in human trafficking as millions of young Africans are migrating to the U.S., Europe and other countries. But things are not better for them in the developed countries where the recession left millions of people jobless. Unemployment Rate in the United States remained unchanged at 7.80 percent in December of 2012 with number of unemployed persons at 12.2 million. And blacks have been hit the hardest by unemployment at 15.8 percent. But in spite of all these challenges in Africa and in her new base in the US, Sandra Appiah, an eptiome of beauty and brilliance is still proudly African and walking tall in the Bronx writing her own illuminating chapter of the American Dream with her team of young blacks and their mission is to use Face2Face AFRICA to re-brand the image of Africa in America and the rest of the world.
Sandra rocks 24/7.
