Sony Pictures To Distribute "The Interview" Online Beginning Christmas Eve Through Google Play, YouTube Movies

Sony Pictures To Distribute "The Interview" Online Beginning Christmas Eve Through Google Play, YouTube Movies, Microsoft's Xbox Video and Dedicated Website
Film To Be Widely Available On Demand Throughout The United States

The Interview

Pervasive Language, Crude and Sexual Humor, Nudity, Some Drug Use and Bloody Violence

In the action-comedy The Interview, Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show 'Skylark Tonight.' When they discover that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the most unlikely candidates, to 'take out' Kim Jong-un.

CULVER CITY, Calif., Dec. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that The Interview will be available online across the United States starting today, Christmas Eve.
As of 10:00 a.m. PST, the film will be available to rent in HD on Google Play, YouTube Movies, Microsoft's Xbox Video and the dedicated website at a price of $5.99. The film can also be purchased in HD for $14.99.
"It has always been Sony's intention to have a national platform on which to release this film," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Entertainment. "With that in mind, we reached out to Google, Microsoft and other partners last Wednesday, December 17th, when it became clear our initial release plans were not possible. We are pleased we can now join with our partners to offer the film nation-wide today.
"We never stopped pursuing as wide a release as possible for The Interview.  It was essential for our studio to release this movie, especially given the assault upon our business and our employees by those who wanted to stop free speech. We chose the path of digital distribution first so as to reach as many people as possible on opening day, and we continue to seek other partners and platforms to further expand the release."
"I want to thank Google and Microsoft for helping make this a reality. This release represents our commitment to our filmmakers and free speech. While we couldn't have predicted the road this movie traveled to get to this moment, I'm proud our fight was not for nothing and that cyber criminals were not able to silence us.
"No doubt the issues we have confronted these last few weeks will not end with this release, but we are gratified to have stood together and confident in our future. I want to thank everyone at Sony Pictures for their dedication and perseverance through what has been an extraordinary and difficult time."
Fans can watch The Interview on several platforms including:

Gone but Not Forgotten: "Gone with the Wind" is Still America's Favorite Movie

Gone but Not Forgotten: "Gone with the Wind" is Still America's Favorite Movie

Gone but Not Forgotten: Gone with the Wind is Still America's Favorite Movie
The force is still strong with Star Wars in the #2 spot; Titanic rises from the depths to #3

NEW YORK, Dec. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- It may have premiered 75 years ago, but it would appear that Wind has still got legs: when asked to name their favorite movie of all time, the septuagenarian Civil War epic Gone with the Wind is Americans' top pick again (the film was also America's favorite movie in 2008).

With six movies in the can and a much-discussed trailer now making the rounds for Episode Seven, Star Wars soars into the same runner up position it held in 2008. Meanwhile, Titanic is doing anything but sinking; after not making the top 10 in 2008, the 1997 love story may not quite be king of the world this time around – but surely rounding out the top three is none too shabby. (Full results, including data tables, available here)

These are some of the results of The Harris Poll® of 2,276 U.S. adults surveyed online between November 12 and 17, 2014.

The remainder of the top 10 list represents a mix of genres and ages:

  • The Godfather must have made someone an offer they couldn't refuse, as the crime classic has risen five spots to #4 this year.
  • Perhaps helped along by the continuing tales of Middle Earth hitting movie screens in recent years, The Lord of the Rings shows little change – it drops one spot from its 2008 position, coming in this year at #5.
  • Music plays a prominent role in the next three films on the list. In fact, it's right there in the title for film #6, The Sound of Music, which drops one spot from 2008.
Dirty Dancing may not be a musical in the traditional sense, but its soundtrack – which stands as one of the best-selling albums of all time – certainly may have played a role in its 7th-place finish (the film was not among the top 10 in 2008).
And of course, there's no place like... the top 10 list – even if you have slipped a couple of spots. The Wizard of Oz, what with its ruby slippers, emerald cities and yellow brick roads, is #8 among Americans' favorite films, down two spots from 2008.
  • It's a Wonderful Life, Frank Capra's tale of the difference one good person can make in the world, takes spot #9 after not making it onto the top 10 in 2008. Meanwhile, E.T. phones home from the #10 spot, also making it onto the top 10 list for the first time.

With four films making it onto the top 10 list for the first time, that means four former inhabitants of that list relinquished their top-10 status this year:
  • Casablanca may have seen the beginning of a beautiful friendship, but that wasn't enough to help it maintain its #3 spot from 2008.
  • The Notebook, meanwhile, seems to have been written out of the #7 position it held the last time around.
  • Forrest Gump fell off the top 10 list after coming in 8th in 2008; perhaps he can comfort himself with a nice box of chocolates.
  • And in an inconceivable turn of events, The Princess Bride drops off the top 10 after a 9th-place tie in 2008. "As you wish," indeed!
Favorite films vary among different groups of Americans

Favorite movies show some variation among different groups, with that variation growing when expanding the view to Americans' top three.
  • As most might expect, gender plays a role. Men are most likely to list Star Wars as their favorite film, followed by The Godfather and Titanic. Women, meanwhile, name Gone with the Wind, Titanic and Dirty Dancing as their top three.
  • Among Millennials, Titanic is the top film followed by Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Gen Xers put Star Wars first, with Titanic and The Godfather rounding out the top three. Gone with the Wind is the top pick among Baby Boomers and Matures alike, though their selections diverge from there; Star Wars and Titanic round out the top three for Baby Boomers, while for Matures it's The Sound of Music and The Godfather.
  • In our divisive political times it may come as little surprise that Republicans and Democrats can't even agree on a favorite film. While Gone with the Wind comes in as the top pick among Republicans (followed by Star Wars and The Godfather) and Independents (with Titanic and Star Wars rounding out the top three), Democrats put Star Wars ahead of all others (followed by Gone with the Wind and Titanic).

Why Steven Spielberg Did Not Know Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Queen of Nollywood

Photo: Omotola Jalade Ekeinde at the Time 100 Gala with the famous icons of Hollywood Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis.

Yes, legendary Academy Award winning director Steven Spielberg knows Lupita Nyong'o of Kenya who is famous for winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her critically acclaimed role of "Patsey" in Steve McQueen's multiple award winning historical drama "12 Years a Slave" (2013), and he also knows Rachel Mwanza of Democratic Republic of the Congo who won the coveted Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2012, Best Actress at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, Vancouver Film Critics Circle in 2012 and Best Actress at the 1st Canadian Screen Awards for her unforgettable role as "Komona" in the Academy Award nominated film "War Witch" (French: Rebelle) by Kim Nguyen. But Spielberg did not know Nigeria's Queen of Nollywood Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, aka Omosexy when he met her for the first time in 2013.

"She scores a zero on the Hollywood Richter scale. She has never starred in a major motion picture. Her most recent film, Last Flight to Abuja, means nothing to devotees of Netflix and LoveFilm," reported Ben Arogundade for the Telegraph of UK on August 28, 2013. And went on to add that world famous Steven Spielberg did not know her even though she was sitting next to him at the TIME 100 Gala dinner she was attending as one of the 2013 TIME 100 Most Influential People in the World.
He did not know her even though she has acted leading roles in more than 300 Nollywood movies and has her own reality TV show "The Real Me" on the AfricaMagic channel of M-Net Africa's DStv, MultiChoice's digital satellite TV service launched in 1995.
But why?
Steven Spielberg did not know Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, because she has never starred in a major motion picture by Hollywood standards.
What of her role as "Anya" in Chineze Anyaene's "Ijé-the Journey" in 2010?
That was a great role that I would even call an Oscar performance, but "Ijé" was not a major motion picture and did not even have any Hollywood theatrical release like Tony Abulu's "Doctor Bello" and Biyi Bandele's "Half of a Yellow Sun" of 2013, even though the two films were among the worst box office flops of the year. Moreover, all the hype of Nollywood being the second largest film industry in the world does not resonate in Hollywood.

Omotola is yet to star in a major motion picture and until she does, Spielberg and other leading world class directors will continue to ignore her. And she must not rest on the oars of her Nollywood glories, because the only way she can prove that she is a world class actress is to compete with the best in motion picture where Lupita Nyong'o, Rachel Mwanza , Leleti Khumalo, Wunmi Mosaku, Carmen Elizabeth Ejogo and other African actresses are making headlines and making millions of dollars. She has conquered Nollywood and now is the time to step up and move on to greater heights in her acting career until she can walk on the red carpet at the Cannes and Oscars as a competitor and not as a spectator.

Nollywood is a big business—contributing 1.2% to Nigeria’s gross domestic product and employing more than a million people, according to a report by the Economist on
Selling BlackBerry Babes. And it is about time for Nollywood movies to make box office records in Hollywood.

For those who don't know who is Steven Spielberg.
He is an American film director who is one of the most accomplished important filmmakers in the history of motion picture. He has won two Academy Awards for his "Schindler's List" (1993 / 66th Academy Awards) and "Saving Private Ryan" (1998 / 71st Academy Awards) and has received a total of 7 Academy Award nominations.
Most people in the world know him for his blockbusters "Jaws" (1975), "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" (1982), and "Jurassic Park (1993). His films have made more than US$8.5 billion worldwide with Spielberg making more than US$3 billion according to Forbes.

"A Dark Reflection" To Reveal Aviation's Darkest Secret at the American Film Market

Fact Not Fiction Films' most recent feature, "A Dark Reflection" screenings today, November 7th and tomorrow November 8th at AFM, conveys a truth regarding passenger air travel amongst the major airlines. Based on actual events, this film tells a compelling story that raises awareness regarding the air quality made available to captive airline passengers. A truth that was endorsed in the High Court of Australia in 2010 when Joanne Turner won her 18-year fight for justice, resulting in compensation for injuries due to her exposure to toxic chemicals onboard a commercial jetliner.

The filmmaker contends that airlines, and their bosses, have withheld the truth for decades that passengers have been exposed to toxic chemicals onboard aircraft. This issue is one that the filmmaker, and others, have repeatedly communicated to the airlines, "So the airlines can never claim that they didn't know", begins former British Airways captain, Director and Producer Tristan Loraine of "A Dark Reflection".
As a former British Airways captain, Tristan delivers an investigative thriller about two British journalists, who whilst investigating a hushed up in-flight safety incident, discover aviation's biggest cover-up. Spurned by real events, this independent feature ultimately pits corporate profit against the public's safety, and as a surprise to those who have researched the topic, the film was partially financed by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA. - See more at:

The GEJ Till 2019 Posters on Nairaland and the Rest of Us

Who are these posters always ending their posts and comments with "GEJ till 2019" on Nairaland, Nigeria's largest and most visited online public opinion forum?
Are they the internet trolls of the ruling party PDP or just genuine fans and supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan?

Realistically, would they be posting "GEJ till 2019" if they have lost people to the catastrophic war in the north east of Nigeria?
If they lost people during the tragic immigration recruitment exercise in March and till date nobody has been prosecuted for the preventable deaths of 18 innocent Nigerians who would not have died if the government appointed competent people to head the Nigeria Immigration Service.
If their sisters are among the missing Chibok school girls the government is using to play bloody politics for the 2015 presidential election so that they will be released in praise of the President when some of their unfortunate parents have died from heartbreak?
If they are among the millions of students who stool like dogs on campuses, because they cannot use the horrible toilets in their hostels since the revenue allocations for government colleges and universities have been misappropriated and then used by corrupt politicians and their partners in crime to build their own private schools?
If they truly know how many billions of dollars have been wasted on the NYSC scheme and will continue to be wasted, because the government contractors don't want the scheme to be scrapped and the scam continues? And not for any patriotic pursuit.
If they know that the oil thieves in the oil producing states are not spirits or ghosts of the Niger Delta, but well known to the government in power from Bayelsa to Abuja. And yet the rate of oil theft is worsening even after the so called Amnesty truce and largess for the Niger Delta militants who care less about the welfare of their poor people in littoral states.
I spent over four years in the Niger Delta, so I know them well. These militants don't know what is equity and justice, because of their greed.

If they know that Nigeria is the only country in the world where the poor masses pay for everything they use, including for the social amenities and even pay electricity bills when they don't have regular power supply for months and they are the most harassed to pay taxes? While many multinational companies and big local companies have not paid taxes for years and those with private jets also evade the required tax and the same crooks and rogues are often receiving national awards from the President, dining and wining with him as long as they support him.

If they know that the irregular power supply is connected to the generator mafia in connivance with the importers and suppliers of the fuel needed daily to power the millions of generators all over Nigeria and the toxic fumes cause the preventable deaths of many Nigerians.

If they really know that the spurious claims of the Transformation Agenda goons and spin doctors of Nigeria are only meant to milk the Milch cow of President Goodluck Jonathan and not for any genuine love for him.
And whenever they don't receive any largess from him, they call him names and curse him behind his back.
President Goodluck Jonathan should pray the following prayer everyday:
Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood:
~ Psalm 144:11King James Version (KJV).

If they know how the same biggest beneficiaries of the government of President Goodluck Jonathan who donated the over N100 million for his presidential nomination form have been enslaving their low income workers and some are in fact owing salaries, cheating and suffering their poor workers in connivance with some Asian and Arab contractors in Nigeria who are their best business partners.

If they know that more journalists and notable leaders have been murdered since the ruling party came to power in 1999 than the military regimes in Nigeria since the end of the Nigerian civil war to date.
And why the 234Next Newspaper of Dele Olojede, the first African-born winner of the Pulitzer Prize was forced to shut down by the gang in the cabinet of government for exposing their corrupt practices and then they later started their own newspaper with a faulty foundation of the union of corruption.
But will the evil and wicked go unpunished as long as there is God?
And what pleases God is not your holy pilgrimages to Jerusalem or Mecca and not how many times you bow before pastors, prophets or imams for prayers, but how much you obey Him. Because God Himself said obedience is better than sacrifice. (1 Samuel 15.) And while they boast to fast, they still persist in their greed and lust, fooling themselves, because they cannot fool God. See "Fasting that Pleases God" ( Isaiah 58 New King James Version).
I am quoting from the Holy Scriptures, because our political leaders like to make a public show of their religion outdoors, but they later dine and wine with cultists indoors and sleep with strange women they have in their cabinet and outside their cabinet. Their extra marital "First Ladies".

The impunity of a corrupt civilian government is as bad as the tyranny of the worst military dictatorship.

The man dies in all who keep silent in the face of tyranny.
~ Prof. Wole Soyinka, first black Nobel Laureate in Literature.

The film will be produced by Lee, Ink Factory's Stephen Cornwell, Rhodri Thomas and Simon Cornwell and by Film4, who originally optioned the book. Simon Beaufoy wrote the script. TriStar has been developing the project with Film4 and Ink Factory since opening its doors at the end of last year. Tessa Ross, who oversaw Film and Drama for Film4 until recently being named to run the UK's National Theatre, was instrumental on behalf of that studio.

Making the movie for TriStar returns Lee to the Sony Pictures umbrella, where he enjoyed great success with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Sense and Sensibility.

The film tells the funny and heartbreaking story of 19-year-old soldier Billy Lynn and his squad, who survive an Iraq battle that is captured by embedded news cameras, causing them to become celebrated as heroes. They are brought home by the US administration for a promotional tour that culminates at the halftime show of a Thanksgiving Day football game in Texas, before they are returned to the war. Almost the entire movie takes place during the game, with flashes away to other events.

Rothman, who has a long history with Lee, orchestrated the deal to bring on the director. The longtime colleagues' most recent venture was the "unfilmable" Life of Pi. Defying all odds, that film grossed $600 million at the worldwide box office.

Said Lee, "I am very excited to be going back to work and to be collaborating with my old friend Tom Rothman. The most important thing to me is storytelling and Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk is a story that immediately gripped me. I look forward to starting the creative process with this extraordinary team of collaborators."

Commenting on the announcement, Rothman said, "Ang Lee is constitutionally incapable of repeating himself. His very DNA requires him to always find new challenges. 'More of the same' may be the film fashion these days, but thankfully not for this exceptional artist. Ang Lee's Billy Lynn will be a true original, and TriStar is in the business of investing in originality, here combined with innovation. Big movies come from such combinations, as witness Life of Pi. We are grateful to Ink Factory, Simon Beaufoy and Ben Fountain for trusting TriStar with Billy's story. Having worked with my friend Tessa on Slumdog Millionaire, 12 Years a Slave, and many other films, I am also grateful to Film4 and sad (but only for us) that she got such a great new gig."

Tessa Ross added, "All of us at Film4 are bowled over that Ang Lee, one of the outstanding filmmakers of his generation, shares our passion for this wonderful material. It's a thrilling collaboration to look forward to and we're very excited to work with our partners at TriStar and this great team to make what promises to be a truly memorable piece of cinema."

Stephen Cornwell, on behalf of The Ink Factory, said, "From the moment we first read Ben Fountain's amazing novel, we believed it would be the foundation for a seminal movie. Film4 and TriStar have been wonderful development partners. Simon Beaufoy did a terrific job and Ang's vision for the film is groundbreaking and extraordinary."

BEN FOUNTAIN'S novel received rave reviews upon its publication in 2012. The New York Times called it: "[an] inspired, blistering war novel…Though it covers only a few hours, the book is a gripping, eloquent provocation. Class, privilege, power, politics, sex, commerce and the life-or-death dynamics of battle all figure in Billy Lynn's surreal game day experience." It won the National Book Critics Circle Award (fiction) and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize (fiction) and was also a finalist for the 2012 National Book Award for Fiction. Previously, Fountain won a PEN/Hemingway award for his book Brief Encounters with Che Guevara: Stories.

ANG LEE was honored with the Academy Award® for Best Director for his work on Brokeback Mountain and again on Life of Pi; in addition, he took home the Oscar® as the director of the Best Foreign Language Film winner Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. His many other indelible films include The Wedding Banquet, Eat Drink Man Woman, Sense and Sensibility, The Ice Storm, Ride with the Devil, Hulk, Lust, Caution and Taking Woodstock.

THE INK FACTORY ( was founded in 2010 by Stephen and Simon Cornwell. Most recently the company produced the John le Carre adaptation A Most Wanted Man, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, and is currently in post-production on Our Kind of Traitor, starring Ewan McGregor, also adapted from the le Carre novel. The company is currently developing numerous projects based on the works of le Carre and other major authors.

SIMON BEAUFOY won the Academy Award® for his screenplay for Slumdog Millionaire, which also won the Oscar® for Best Picture for Fox Searchlight, then under Mr. Rothman. Beaufoy was also Oscar® nominated for his work as a writer of The Full Monty and 127 Hours, also for Rothman. His other recent credits include Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and the upcoming film Everest.

At TRISTAR, Ang Lee joins a fast growing roster of A-list talent currently making films for the rejuvenated studio, including go movies Ricki and the Flash, starring Meryl Streep, The Walk, from Robert Zemeckis, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, The Lady in the Van, starring Maggie Smith and Money Monster, starring George Clooney, in addition to projects with Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, and others.

FILM4 is Channel 4 Television's feature film division. Film4 develops and co-finances films and is known for working with the most distinctive and innovative talent in the UK, whether new or established. Film4 has developed and co-financed many of the most successful UK films of recent years, Academy Award®-winners such as Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave, Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, Martin McDonagh's In Bruges and Phyllida Lloyd's The Iron Lady; in addition to critically-acclaimed award-winners such as Mike Leigh's Another Year, Chris Morris' Four Lions, Shane Meadows' This is England, Ben Wheatley's Sightseers and Clio Barnard's The Selfish Giant.

Lee is represented by CAA, Ira Schreck, and Joe Dapello. The film is set to start production in the spring.
