The Interview

Pervasive Language, Crude and Sexual Humor, Nudity, Some Drug Use and Bloody Violence

In the action-comedy The Interview, Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show 'Skylark Tonight.' When they discover that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the most unlikely candidates, to 'take out' Kim Jong-un.

CULVER CITY, Calif., Dec. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that The Interview will be available online across the United States starting today, Christmas Eve.
As of 10:00 a.m. PST, the film will be available to rent in HD on Google Play, YouTube Movies, Microsoft's Xbox Video and the dedicated website www.seetheinterview.com at a price of $5.99. The film can also be purchased in HD for $14.99.
"It has always been Sony's intention to have a national platform on which to release this film," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Entertainment. "With that in mind, we reached out to Google, Microsoft and other partners last Wednesday, December 17th, when it became clear our initial release plans were not possible. We are pleased we can now join with our partners to offer the film nation-wide today.
"We never stopped pursuing as wide a release as possible for The Interview.  It was essential for our studio to release this movie, especially given the assault upon our business and our employees by those who wanted to stop free speech. We chose the path of digital distribution first so as to reach as many people as possible on opening day, and we continue to seek other partners and platforms to further expand the release."
"I want to thank Google and Microsoft for helping make this a reality. This release represents our commitment to our filmmakers and free speech. While we couldn't have predicted the road this movie traveled to get to this moment, I'm proud our fight was not for nothing and that cyber criminals were not able to silence us.
"No doubt the issues we have confronted these last few weeks will not end with this release, but we are gratified to have stood together and confident in our future. I want to thank everyone at Sony Pictures for their dedication and perseverance through what has been an extraordinary and difficult time."
Fans can watch The Interview on several platforms including:
  • Google Play: the movie is available to buy or rent at play.google.com, and can be watched in the Play Movies & TV app on Android and iOS phones or tablets, or streamed in the living room via Chromecast, Roku or the Nexus Player.

Gone but Not Forgotten: "Gone with the Wind" is Still America's Favorite Movie

Gone but Not Forgotten: "Gone with the Wind" is Still America's Favorite Movie

Gone but Not Forgotten: Gone with the Wind is Still America's Favorite Movie
The force is still strong with Star Wars in the #2 spot; Titanic rises from the depths to #3

NEW YORK, Dec. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- It may have premiered 75 years ago, but it would appear that Wind has still got legs: when asked to name their favorite movie of all time, the septuagenarian Civil War epic Gone with the Wind is Americans' top pick again (the film was also America's favorite movie in 2008).

With six movies in the can and a much-discussed trailer now making the rounds for Episode Seven, Star Wars soars into the same runner up position it held in 2008. Meanwhile, Titanic is doing anything but sinking; after not making the top 10 in 2008, the 1997 love story may not quite be king of the world this time around – but surely rounding out the top three is none too shabby. (Full results, including data tables, available here)

These are some of the results of The Harris Poll® of 2,276 U.S. adults surveyed online between November 12 and 17, 2014.

The remainder of the top 10 list represents a mix of genres and ages:

  • The Godfather must have made someone an offer they couldn't refuse, as the crime classic has risen five spots to #4 this year.
  • Perhaps helped along by the continuing tales of Middle Earth hitting movie screens in recent years, The Lord of the Rings shows little change – it drops one spot from its 2008 position, coming in this year at #5.
  • Music plays a prominent role in the next three films on the list. In fact, it's right there in the title for film #6, The Sound of Music, which drops one spot from 2008.
Dirty Dancing may not be a musical in the traditional sense, but its soundtrack – which stands as one of the best-selling albums of all time – certainly may have played a role in its 7th-place finish (the film was not among the top 10 in 2008).
And of course, there's no place like... the top 10 list – even if you have slipped a couple of spots. The Wizard of Oz, what with its ruby slippers, emerald cities and yellow brick roads, is #8 among Americans' favorite films, down two spots from 2008.
  • It's a Wonderful Life, Frank Capra's tale of the difference one good person can make in the world, takes spot #9 after not making it onto the top 10 in 2008. Meanwhile, E.T. phones home from the #10 spot, also making it onto the top 10 list for the first time.
Inconceivable!

With four films making it onto the top 10 list for the first time, that means four former inhabitants of that list relinquished their top-10 status this year:
  • Casablanca may have seen the beginning of a beautiful friendship, but that wasn't enough to help it maintain its #3 spot from 2008.
  • The Notebook, meanwhile, seems to have been written out of the #7 position it held the last time around.
  • Forrest Gump fell off the top 10 list after coming in 8th in 2008; perhaps he can comfort himself with a nice box of chocolates.
  • And in an inconceivable turn of events, The Princess Bride drops off the top 10 after a 9th-place tie in 2008. "As you wish," indeed!
Favorite films vary among different groups of Americans

Favorite movies show some variation among different groups, with that variation growing when expanding the view to Americans' top three.
  • As most might expect, gender plays a role. Men are most likely to list Star Wars as their favorite film, followed by The Godfather and Titanic. Women, meanwhile, name Gone with the Wind, Titanic and Dirty Dancing as their top three.
  • Among Millennials, Titanic is the top film followed by Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Gen Xers put Star Wars first, with Titanic and The Godfather rounding out the top three. Gone with the Wind is the top pick among Baby Boomers and Matures alike, though their selections diverge from there; Star Wars and Titanic round out the top three for Baby Boomers, while for Matures it's The Sound of Music and The Godfather.
  • In our divisive political times it may come as little surprise that Republicans and Democrats can't even agree on a favorite film. While Gone with the Wind comes in as the top pick among Republicans (followed by Star Wars and The Godfather) and Independents (with Titanic and Star Wars rounding out the top three), Democrats put Star Wars ahead of all others (followed by Gone with the Wind and Titanic).

Why Steven Spielberg Did Not Know Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Queen of Nollywood

Photo: Omotola Jalade Ekeinde at the Time 100 Gala with the famous icons of Hollywood Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis.

Yes, legendary Academy Award winning director Steven Spielberg knows Lupita Nyong'o of Kenya who is famous for winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her critically acclaimed role of "Patsey" in Steve McQueen's multiple award winning historical drama "12 Years a Slave" (2013), and he also knows Rachel Mwanza of Democratic Republic of the Congo who won the coveted Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2012, Best Actress at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, Vancouver Film Critics Circle in 2012 and Best Actress at the 1st Canadian Screen Awards for her unforgettable role as "Komona" in the Academy Award nominated film "War Witch" (French: Rebelle) by Kim Nguyen. But Spielberg did not know Nigeria's Queen of Nollywood Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, aka Omosexy when he met her for the first time in 2013.

"She scores a zero on the Hollywood Richter scale. She has never starred in a major motion picture. Her most recent film, Last Flight to Abuja, means nothing to devotees of Netflix and LoveFilm," reported Ben Arogundade for the Telegraph of UK on August 28, 2013. And went on to add that world famous Steven Spielberg did not know her even though she was sitting next to him at the TIME 100 Gala dinner she was attending as one of the 2013 TIME 100 Most Influential People in the World.
He did not know her even though she has acted leading roles in more than 300 Nollywood movies and has her own reality TV show "The Real Me" on the AfricaMagic channel of M-Net Africa's DStv, MultiChoice's digital satellite TV service launched in 1995.
But why?
Steven Spielberg did not know Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, because she has never starred in a major motion picture by Hollywood standards.
What of her role as "Anya" in Chineze Anyaene's "Ijé-the Journey" in 2010?
That was a great role that I would even call an Oscar performance, but "Ijé" was not a major motion picture and did not even have any Hollywood theatrical release like Tony Abulu's "Doctor Bello" and Biyi Bandele's "Half of a Yellow Sun" of 2013, even though the two films were among the worst box office flops of the year. Moreover, all the hype of Nollywood being the second largest film industry in the world does not resonate in Hollywood.

Omotola is yet to star in a major motion picture and until she does, Spielberg and other leading world class directors will continue to ignore her. And she must not rest on the oars of her Nollywood glories, because the only way she can prove that she is a world class actress is to compete with the best in motion picture where Lupita Nyong'o, Rachel Mwanza , Leleti Khumalo, Wunmi Mosaku, Carmen Elizabeth Ejogo and other African actresses are making headlines and making millions of dollars. She has conquered Nollywood and now is the time to step up and move on to greater heights in her acting career until she can walk on the red carpet at the Cannes and Oscars as a competitor and not as a spectator.

Nollywood is a big business—contributing 1.2% to Nigeria’s gross domestic product and employing more than a million people, according to a report by the Economist on
Selling BlackBerry Babes. And it is about time for Nollywood movies to make box office records in Hollywood.

For those who don't know who is Steven Spielberg.
He is an American film director who is one of the most accomplished important filmmakers in the history of motion picture. He has won two Academy Awards for his "Schindler's List" (1993 / 66th Academy Awards) and "Saving Private Ryan" (1998 / 71st Academy Awards) and has received a total of 7 Academy Award nominations.
Most people in the world know him for his blockbusters "Jaws" (1975), "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" (1982), and "Jurassic Park (1993). His films have made more than US$8.5 billion worldwide with Spielberg making more than US$3 billion according to Forbes.
